Kentucky Migrant Education Scholarship

Or any other accredited high school in Kentucky

Applicants must be a graduating senior from an accredited Kentucky high school or have received a GED diploma during the current school year and: (1) must be or have been enrolled in a migrant education program in Kentucky during any portion of grades 9-12; (2) must apply to an institution of higher learning and must provide documentation of such acceptance; (3) must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better (HS transcript) with an ACT score of at least 17 or comparable score on post-secondary entrance exam; and (4) must submit three letters of recommendation, with one letter being from a high school teacher, principal or counselor from the school that the student attends, one from a community source, and one from an additional source. Please contact your county migrant advocate to obtain an application. Applications are due each year by March 23 to the Foundation office.

Ashland High School Class of 1939 Scholarship

Paul G. Blazer High School

The Ashland High School Class of 1939 Scholarship Fund was established to annually provide a scholarship for a student at Paul G. Blazer High School who maintains a 3.0 or higher grade point average, demonstrates financial need and shows a history of involvement in community and/or religious service.

Ashland Women’s Scholarship

Boyd County High School, Fairview High School, Paul G. Blazer High School

The Ashland Women’s Club established this scholarship for graduating seniors who are residents of Boyd County, Kentucky, and are students at Paul G. Blazer High School, Boyd County High School or Fairview High School. Applications will be considered by the committee on the basis of need, leadership ability, high moral character and academic excellence.

Billie B. Little Scholarship

Boyd County High School, Fairview High School, Greenup County High School, Holy Family Catholic School, Paul G. Blazer High School, Raceland High School, Rose Hill Christian School, Russell High School

The Billie B. Little Scholarship is designed to assist academically qualified students residing in Boyd or Greenup counties. Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 and an ACT score of at least 28 and plan to pursue a health care profession.

Billy Gammon Memorial Scholarship

Paul G. Blazer High School

The Billy Gammon Memorial Scholarship is awarded each fall to a football player at Paul G. Blazer High School.

Chad Gabbard Memorial Scholarship Fund

Raceland High School, Russell High School

The Chad Gabbard Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to provide a scholarship for a graduating senior at Russell High School or Raceland High School.  Selection criteria includes, but is not limited to: academic performance and outstanding extracurricular involvement, with a demonstrated emphasis on leadership experience.

Courtney Thomas Memorial Scholarship

Paul G. Blazer High School

Established in 1998, the first scholarship from this fund was awarded in 2003 to a senior in Courtney’s graduating class at Paul G. Blazer High School.

Applicants should be interested in a career in a caring profession such as nursing or teaching and plan to attend either a two- or four-year accredited college, university or technical school. The scholarship recipient shall be chosen on the basis of (1) care and concern shown for others; (2) economic need compared to educational costs; and (3) history of community service.

Craig Thompson Memorial Scholarship

Greenup County High School

The Craig Thompson Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2007 to annually provide a scholarship to a graduating senior at Greenup County High School. Preference will be given to applicants who are pursuing a degree in the sciences or mathematics.

Deborah’s Porch Scholarship

East Carter High School

The Deborah’s Porch Scholarship was established to provide a scholarship for a deserving student graduating from East Carter High School, with special consideration given to students who have demonstrated an outstanding record of community service, good behavior, and proven leadership skills.  To be eligible, applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA and an ACT score of 20.

Dick Griffith Scholarship

The Dick Griffith Scholarship Fund was established to provide a scholarship(s) for seniors from Cabell or Wayne County, West Virginia; Lawrence County, Ohio; or Boyd County, Kentucky. The scholarship is awarded to an individual who best exemplifies Mr. Griffith’s dedication to tennis as a life-long endeavor. While the scholarship is not limited to a competitive tennis player, non-tennis players must have a connection to the tennis community at large. Selection criteria includes, but is not limited to, sportsmanship, moral character, citizenship and satisfactory academic standing. Financial need may be considered. Candidates must also plan to attend an accredited two- to four-year year college, university, community college or technical school.

Dorothy Murphy Scholarship

Boyd County High School, Fairview High School, Holy Family Catholic School, Paul G. Blazer High School, Rose Hill Christian School

The Dorothy Murphy Scholarship was established to provide a scholarship for a senior graduating from Boyd County High School, Ashland Independent High School, Fairview High School, Holy Family School, or Rose Hill Christian School. To be eligible, applicants must be planning to enroll in a full-time undergraduate program at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year, maintain a 2.5 GPA, and have resided in Boyd County, KY for at least three (3) years prior to applying. Students may reapply, but may not receive more than 5 years of funds. This scholarship is for undergraduate studies only.

Applicants must be dependent children of employees of Huntington Steel & Supply Company entering their freshman, sophomore, junior or senior year as a full-time student at any four-year accredited college, university or technical school.

Each scholarship recipient shall be chosen on the basis of an evaluation of his or her academic performance, leadership abilities, demonstrated and potential contributions to school and community and financial need compared to costs of the institution at which they intend to enroll after expected family contributions and other grants and scholarship assistance have been considered. Applications are available through the Human Resource Department of Huntington Steel.

Iron City Auto Club Scholarship

Collins Career Technical Center, Ironton High School

The Iron City Auto Club Scholarship is for students at Collins Career Center and Ironton High School who plan to enroll in a two or four-year automotive degree or certificate program at a non-profit college or technical school.  Applicants must have at least a 2.5 GPA to qualify.

Ironton Area Kiwanis Club Scholarship

Chesapeake High School, Dawson-Bryant High School, Fairland High School, Ironton High School, Rock Hill High School, South Point High School, St. Joseph Central High School, Symmes Valley High School

The Ironton Area Kiwanis Club Scholarship Fund provides scholarships for students who are graduating high school in Lawrence County, Ohio, and who are members of the Key Club or Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Program or who excel in community service.

James A. Anderson

Paul G. Blazer High School

The James A. Anderson, Jr. Scholarship Fund was established in 2011 to provide a scholarship to a graduating senior from Paul G. Blazer High School who demonstrates both proficiency in the classroom and athletic achievement and plans to attend an accredited post-secondary institution. Eligible applicants must: (1) have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 through the first semester, senior year; (2) have a minimum ACT score of 21; and (3) have obtained a Varsity letter in at least one KHSAA-sanctioned sport during their junior or senior year of school.

Jamie Sue Barker Memorial Scholarship

Ironton High School

The Jamie Sue Barker Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2007 by the Friends of Ironton Inc. to provide scholarships for seniors at Ironton High School who will be attending Ohio University Southern Campus. Eligible candidates must have a minimum grade point average of 2.5. Selection criteria also includes, but is not limited to, community service and financial need.

Jane McConnell Memorial Scholarship

St. Joseph Central High School

Each applicant must be a graduating senior at St. Joseph’s High School (Ironton, Ohio) and: (1) have served volunteer time in the Ironton Catholic Schools, church and Catholic community; (2) receive Christian lifestyle evaluations by the students of the senior class; (3) receive evaluation by the faculty in the areas of character, service, scholarship and practicality; and (4) have at least a 2.5 GPA overall at the end of the first semester of the senior year.

Janet Nunley Scholarship

The Janet Nunley Scholarship Fund was established in 2009 to provide scholarships for female seniors at Paul G. Blazer High School. Eligible candidates have average grades and financial need but also have strong potential and a burning desire to attend college.

John W. Estep, Jr. Scholarship

Boyd County High School, Paul G. Blazer High School

The John W. Estep, Jr. Scholarship Fund for Career and Technical Education was established in 2016 to provide a scholarship for one deserving senior attending Paul Blazer or Boyd County High School who has completed a pathway in Career and Technical Education (CTE).  Students must have a minimum ACT score of 19 to be considered.

Judith Page Johnson Memorial Scholrship

Pikeville High School

This scholarship was established by Governor and Mrs. Patton in 2006 in memory of their granddaughter. The scholarship is awarded each spring to a graduating female senior of Pikeville High School chosen by the faculty.

Lacey Parnell Memorial Scholarship

Ironton High School

The Lacey Parnell Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2007 by the Friends of Ironton Inc. to provide scholarships for seniors at Ironton High School who will be attending Ohio University Southern Campus. Eligible candidates must have a minimum grade point average of 2.5. Selection criteria will also include, but is not limited to, community service and financial need.

Lawrence County (KY) High School

Lawrence County High School

The Lawrence County (KY) High School Scholarship Fund was established in 2000 to provide scholarships to students graduating from Lawrence County (KY) High School. Applicants should be solid, well-rounded students who are highly motivated and who may not be able to continue their education without this financial assistance. This scholarship is available to students who plan to attend a two- to four-year college or technical school.

LP-JOMAR Scholarship

The LP-JOMAR Scholarship was established to provide assistance to students graduating from the Ironton Catholic Schools.

Each applicant must be a student who demonstrates financial need and who is enthusiastic to learn and to pursue a college education. Students with the highest grade point average will not be the target of this scholarship.

Matthews Family Scholarship

This scholarship provides assistance to students graduating from public and private schools in Boyd and Greenup counties in Kentucky, Cabell and Wayne counties in West Virginia or Lawrence County, Ohio. This scholarship is payable over two years, provided that the student maintains at least a 2.5 GPA in the first year of college/technical school.

Each scholarship recipient shall be chosen on the basis of application and subsequent acceptance and enrollment into a nursing program at a college or technical school. Applicants will be chosen on the basis of demonstrated financial need, solid academic performance, involvement in school and volunteer activities and quality of essay and letters of recommendation.

The Morning Has Broken Scholarship Fund was established in 2011 to provide a scholarship for seniors at Boyd County, Paul G. Blazer and Russell High Schools who plan to pursue a business major in college. Eligible candidates must also plan to attend an accredited two- to four-year college or university.

Oren & Patty Justice Scholarship

Established in late 2000, this scholarship provides assistance to students graduating from public or private high schools in the FIVCO counties of Kentucky (which consist of Boyd, Carter, Elliott, Greenup and Lawrence counties). Applying students must be planning to attend Ashland Community & Technical College, Marshall University, Morehead State University, Ohio University (Southern or Athens campus), Rio Grande University, Shawnee State University or the University of Kentucky.

Each scholarship recipient shall be chosen on the basis of merit and financial need relative to tuition costs. Preference will be given to students studying the sciences; education majors will not be considered.

Rachel Lauren Lavalley Scholarship

This scholarship was set up in memory of Rachel Lauren Lavalley to benefit children by providing tuition assistance to Our Lady of Fatima (Huntington, WV) students. Please contact the school office for applications.

Representative Don Farley Scholarship

The Representative Don Farley Memorial Scholarship Fund honors his memory and service to the people of the 100th Legislative District. Applicants must reside in the 100th Legislative District of Kentucky, maintain a 3.0 or higher grade point average, demonstrate financial need and show a history of involvement in community and/or religious service.
